Learning & Professional Practice assignment‏ Essay
Learning & Professional Practice assignmentâ⬠- Essay Example This paper provides some discussions on the various aspects of learning that are important in understanding how human beings are as learners. Specifically, it explains how people learn as discussed mostly in the view of educational psychology, the methods used to further a personââ¬â¢s learning progress, the way learners responds in different learning environment, and how human beings develop what they learned into a higher level of thinking. People tend to have a general notion that learning usually transpires within the domains of formal educational institutions such as schools and universities. Although most of the knowledge that individuals accumulated over time have been a result of formal training and discourse, it is undeniable that the process of learning is an unending and inevitable phenomenon which happens in any other venues besides formal institutions. As Salmon (1980) puts it, learning also occurs outside schools and universities ââ¬â that is, within the comforts of the home, the workplace, or any place where we can communicate and socialize with other people. Apparently, this is particularly true with a personââ¬â¢s early childhood learning experiences and equally true with his/her continual learning endeavors after bidding farewells to the academic world on his/her graduation day. In the early childhood years, human beings started to learn through the aid of speech and language which are usually accompanied by effective nonverbal gestures. From reciting nursery rhymes, they stepped up to writing our own essays and poems. From counting one to ten, they moved to memorizing the multiplication table and solving even more complex problems on accounting or mathematical economics. Eventually, they became capable to manage the financial aspects of a business. From learning the rules of a game, they became able to set our own rules or even devise a new game. I have to agree with Cam (1995) that the manifestations of

A report based on analysing data from a survey of service quality at a Essay - 1
A report based on analysing data from a survey of service quality at a University Sports Centre - Essay Example ed with the service they receive from one point, they may switch to other places where they will get the expected satisfaction (Bloemer and Kasper, 2013). This means a lot to service providers in ensuring that they provide services that meet the service expectations of their users and therefore lead to service satisfaction. According to Williams & Buswell (2013), service satisfaction is mostly attained when there is high level of service quality in the service provided. To this end, service providers have used various means to measure and evaluate the extent of quality in the service they provide. One of these is the use of the data collection instrument known as SERVQUAL (Ndubisi, 2012). In this paper, the outcome of one such instrument is subjected to critical analysis. SERVQUAL is an instrument that seeks to give a quantitative description to the level of service quality that prevails within a given service setting (Bluestein, Moriarty and Sanderson, 2013). For this paper, the emp hasis is on the outcome of service quality among students using a sports facility at a University. Generally, the questionnaire used can be commended for its quantitative approach. As it has been stressed already, this was necessary in quantifying quality and satisfaction, which otherwise would have remained highly relative and subjective to individual differences (Newman, 2011). Meanwhile, the use of quantitative measures has been praised as highly innovative ways by which empirical outcomes are achieved with various research findings (Wirtz and Bateson, 2012). The reason this is said is that most of the outcome with quantitative measures such as percentages, means and standard deviations are things that have a common universal interpretation. In effect, the interpretation to the outcomes of a study always remains the same no matter where it is taken to for analysis. With this said recommendation that will be made for improvement on the questionnaire has to do with the number of areas

Videogames Don?t Kill People, People Kill People Essay -- essays resea
Videogames Donââ¬â¢t Kill People, People Kill People Every generation has pointed a finger at the recreational pastimes of young persons, accusing that these activities lead our nations youth astray and induce violent or antisocial behavior. Novels, music, TV, movies, and now the finger is pointing straight at one of the newest and quickest growing youth pastimes; videogames. This particular pastime differs from others in their reality and scope for direct participation, therefore allowing the crusty old curmudgeons to conclude that playing them leads all young people to commit acts of violence. à à à à à Numerous studies have been conducted to determine whether or not there is a direct link between violent tendencies and videogames. Some tests claim there is a definite link, others refute it, but both often show very shaky statistics. Most tests simply prove inconclusive. According to an article by Anne D. Walling, a recent study by Drs Bensley and Van Eenwyk shows that: Rates of adolescent violence, homicide, weapon carrying, and other markers of antisocial behavior fell consistently during the period when violent videogames became ubiquitous, more graphic, and more realistic. (1) This would suggest that youths are using videogames as a form of escape. Instead of being out on the streets committing acts of delinquency, they are instead at home, safely playing videogames. à à à à à Walling also provides the combined results from twenty-nine other individual studies of this topic. The studies all varied greatly in design and quality, preventing any firm determination from being reached. Children of middle school age and younger showed no association between videogames and aggression in girls, and both increases and decreases in aggression among boys. Studies of high school students predominately dealt with boys, often using self-report. Both calming and arousing effects were again reported, and no consistent relationship was drawn between violent games and actual behavior. In college students and young adults, results were yet again mixed, but calming effects were more common, particularly if the prior mood was hostile or aggressive (2). à à à à à So-called experts like to point their fingers at Eric Harris as an example that violent videogames do indeed create violent children. Harris was one of the t... ...n that there seems to be no direct link to violent behavior and playing violent videogames. Studies even show that adolescent crime has decreased as videogames have become more realistic and graphic, showing that they seem to have a more calming effect on kids. As long as people can continue to differentiate between whatââ¬â¢s real and whatââ¬â¢s not, we should be just fine. However, as long as there are crusty old curmudgeons out there who are afraid of things they donââ¬â¢t understand, then videogames will always be under heavy fire. The Difference Between Manual and Automatic Typing Machines
Today many people use a computer to do work for their business, home, and school. I am writing a report outlining the differences between using a typewriter and a computer to do work. I will also explain why one machine is better than the other. Hopefully this report will help you discover the advantages your employees will gain from the use of computers. Computers are machines of the future. People use computers more than the typewriters in the office, at school and at home. One of the main reasons is a computer has more features than a typewriter. A typewriter is very limited in itâ⬠s use, for example, you have to use correction fluid every time you make a mistake. There is the advantage of Manual typewriters being more mobile (since they don't depend on electricity), but are often bulkier and heavier than electric or electronic typewriters Computers process work faster than typewriters on mass of products. Software such as Microsoft Office 2000 can practically run the office for you. The most common word processing program is Microsoft Word 2000â⬠³s Word 2000 program. Word 2000 can bold, underline, copy, paste, and highlight the letters on computers. It can also change fonts and sizes for the letters. Word 2000 has all these special features for the computer, which typewriters donâ⬠t have. Computers can save the word processing on hard disk or floppy disk, which means it can be accessed and edited over, and over again, and printed out when needed. Typewriters canâ⬠t save or change once typing done. There are some special features of Word 2000 such as the ability of inserting clipart and WordArt. Clipart is a feature that provides arts, pictures, video, and sound. WordArt is also a feature provide styles and colours for words. Computers can make word processing outcome ten times better than typewriter. Typewriters only had spaces, capital letters and other simple features. Computer Word Processors are very convenient for writing. You can correct mistakes, check your spelling, format your paper, and often do other fancy things quite easily. However, you are tied to a power supply, and you will usually need some unusual sort of adapter in another country. Ribbons for many word processor machines are unique to the company that makes them, and are often hard to find outside of large cities in post-industrial countries. Laptop computers are the ultimate in convenience. You can do almost anything with a modern word-processing/design application that you could in the best of print shops. However, you are again tied to an electrical outlet (limiting your choice of location and project) and most portable computers do not have their own printer. It is not too difficult to put your material on a floppy disk and print it out at the Center with a computer printer compatible with your computer. Be aware of typing and writing health. Use posture that won't break your back in ten years. Hold your wrists right so you don't get carpal tunnel syndrome (especially for electronic keyboards). Remember to rest your eyes regularly if your have to stare at a computer screen for long periods of time. As technology continues to expand in offices across the Nation, the role of the secretary has greatly evolved. Office automation and organizational restructuring have led secretaries to assume a wide range of new responsibilities once reserved for managerial and professional staff. Many secretaries now provide training and orientation to new staff, conduct research on the Internet, and learn to operate new office technologies. In the midst of these changes, however, their core responsibilities have remained much the same-performing and coordinating an officeâ⬠s administrative activities and ensuring that information is disseminated to staff and clients. Secretaries are responsible for a variety of administrative and clerical duties necessary to run an organization efficiently. They serve as an information clearinghouse for an office, schedule appointments, provide information to callers, organize and maintain paper and electronic files, manage projects, and produce correspondence. They may also prepare correspondence, handle travel arrangements, and contact clients. Secretaries are aided in these tasks by a variety of office equipment, such as filing systems, photocopiers, and telephone systems. In addition, secretaries increasingly use personal computers to run spreadsheet, word processing, database management, desktop publishing, and graphics programs-tasks previously handled by managers and other professionals. At the same time, these other workers have assumed many tasks traditionally assigned to secretaries, such as word processing and answering the telephone. Because secretaries are often relieved from dictation and typing, they can support several members of the professional staff. In a number of organizations, secretaries work in teams in order to work flexibly and share their expertise.

GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE CONNECTION TO NATURAL DISASTERS INTRODUCTION Global climate change is an issue that is taking part in an increasing number of conversations worldwide. Many concerns have risen due to climate change, with one of those concerns being the negative effect climate change has on natural disasters and health. ââ¬Å"Global warming and climate change refer to an increase in average global temperatures. Natural events and human activities are believed to be contributing to an increase in average global temperaturesâ⬠(Global Issues, 2015). This is primarily caused by an increase release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. â⬠The greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), perfluorocarbons, and sulfur hexafluoride. Greenhouse gases act together to absorb the earthââ¬â¢s infrared radiation and solar heat and limit radiant heat loss, arming the earthââ¬â¢s surface and increasing surrounding tropospheric temperaturesâ⬠(Diaz, 2006). Around the world, populations have continued to increase their use of fossil fuels which has made a great contribution to global climate change. ââ¬Å"The continuing combustion of fossil fuels since the industrial revolution has contributed more than 75% of the carbon dioxide, the major greenhouse gas, to the atmosphere, with the remainder due to intentional cropland and rainforest burningâ⬠(Diaz, 2006). For over 150 years we have continued this harmful use of fossil fuels and slowly we areShow MoreRelatedGlobal Warming And Global Climate Change1139 Words à |à 5 Pages The topic of global climate change has been a much debated topic over the years. The Allegory Of The Cave Essay - 1660 Words
3. Explain how the Allegory of the Cave represents Platoââ¬â¢s views about the nature of knowledge and the nature of reality. In the Allegory of the Cave there are chained prisoners in cave who can only stare at the cave wall in front of them. At the back there is a long entrance with a staircase the width of the cave and a fire burning in the distance. They see only shadows projected in front of them from a raised platform and hear an echo that they attribute to what they observe. They talk about and name the shadows of objects they see before them. To them the truth are the shadows. Then one day one of the prisoners is released. He is told that what he saw before was an illusion. Once he is outside it takes a while for his eyes to adjust to the sun. First he observed the shadows of thing then their reflection and finally the actual object. Remembering his previous state he goes back to the cave and tries to explain that everything is an illusion but they laugh at him and think heââ¬â¢s crazy. They believe it best not to ascend and they choose to remain as they are. The cave represented opinion. The shadows that are cast on to the wall represented physical objects. Bob Dylan s Poem A Hard Rain s A Gon Na Fall - 1734 Words
Songs can be considered the melody of life because artists use songs to express their thoughts and capture the moment in time. For over 50 years, American rock and roll artist, Bob Dylan influences his generation through the use of his ââ¬Å"protest songsâ⬠(Rollingstone). Dylanââ¬â¢s personalized and allusive songs revolutionized the music industry by allowing music to be an analytical literature in which people can debate about. Although Bob Dylan wrote A Hard Rainââ¬â¢s A-Gonna Fall in the summer of 1962, Dylanââ¬â¢s song conveys the predicaments of the society in the past and the present (Wikipedia). Issues related to faith, violence, exploitation and injustice of human are portrayed through the lyrics, allusions and the other musical elements of Aâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬Å"Hard rainâ⬠can be interpreted as the nuclear atomic rain that is harmful to both the humans and the environment or it can be the storm of rain. This line that is repeated throug hout demonstrates how humans cannot control the rain. In addition, hyperboles such as ââ¬Å"roar of a wave that could drown the whole worldâ⬠(Dylan) shows how water are crucial to the humanââ¬â¢s survival, but also a danger to the humanââ¬â¢s survival because this wave can refer to the deadly tsunami. The personification of the ââ¬Å" seven sad forestsâ⬠(Dylan) on seven continents also allows the listeners to sympathize with the singer and understand the effects of human activities that are destroying the nature. Furthermore, Dylan uses natural elements such as thunder that is the warning to rain as a warning to the unfortunate and miserable future of the world that will be filled with death and violence (Genius). Dylanââ¬â¢s incorporation of god and nature with death also relates to the later part of his life where he experienced his idol, Woody Guthrie, and himself in near-death situations. (Rollingstone) Violence is another issue that is still going on toda y and is mentioned in A Hard Rainââ¬â¢s A-Gonna Fall. Dylan wrote the song during the Vietnam war and the Cuban Missile Crisis. Thus, this song can be interpreted as a response to the Vietnam war and the Cuban Missile Crisis or about war in general. The allusion to war and death
